Elephant!!

I crocheted an Elephant! How cool is that?! What's even better is that this little elephant has a granny back and ears - my favourite kinda crochet!

I was reminded this week by Emma from Lemons for Lemonade about an elephant pattern I bought ages ago; Emma is also crocheting an elephant! My eldest daughter, Saffron, is elephant mad and she has been pestering me for this for ages! She doesn't know I started making it and she has gone away for the weekend so I can't wait to give it to her, she's going to be chuffed to bits!

It is the most fiddliest crochet I have ever done, especially the tops of the legs! But the pattern has been superbly written and I didn't have to adjust anything so it was easy peasy!

The trunk took me two attempts as the first one started veering off to the left a bit! This is the first time I have had to use a stitch marker (safety pin) to mark the beginning of a row - so useful!

The pattern is by Irene Strange and can currently be found on Ravelry, although I remember buying it from her online shop before! I would definitely buy another pattern from Irene as they are very well written and she pays close attention to detail in the many photos to show you the way!

I used King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK in dark blue, turquoise and sand. Blue is Saffron's favourite colour!! The pattern say's to use 4 ply wool and a 2.5mm hook but I used DK and a 3.5mm hook and it was absolutely fine!

So here is my elephant in the making!! I am actually really proud of myself because this is my first attempt at amigurumi and it went rather well!

  1. Ahhhh it's gorgeous!! A very cute elephant!!! Your daughter is going to be thrilled that her Mum made Elliefant just for her :) Well done you! I'm yet to try amigurumi as it always looks so fiddly.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

  5. Your elephant is amazing! Such beautiful colours. Did Saffron like it? I hope so.

I finished my elephant yesterday, and it's nearly packed up and ready to make it's journey to it's new two and a half year old owner...

I shall blog about it soon!
