I am midway through a hexagon blanket at the moment, I absolutely can't wait to see it finished, it is so wonderfully bright and full of colour! I was inspired by Coco Rose who made a beautiful, colourful blanket using Attic24's pattern but with a slight variation. She also squared the blanket off which I prefer too with half hexies and mini hexie bits!! However, Coco Rose didn't write them down in her blog.
A few other Twitter and IG people have been hexing away too and I promised someone that I would write the patterns down as I managed to work out what they were from the pictures!
Please remember that if you are using Attic24 hexagons then my half and mini hexagons will be slightly different - change all the 5ch's into 4ch's and all the 4dc's into 3dc's!
So, just to make it clear - this is the pattern for Coco Rose's hexagons with pictures:
I am using a 3.5mm hook and Stylecraft Special DK, pattern is US.
Make a magic ring
1. Ch3, 11dc into ring, pull small yarn tight, join with a slip st.
2. Ch2, dc in same st, ch1(makes a bobble stitch), (bobble st, ch1) in each st, join with sl st.
3. Ch 4, (3dc, ch1) in next 11 ch1 spaces, 2dc in last space, join with sl st to 3rd ch.
4. Sl st into ch1 space. (ch 3, sl st into next ch1 space, ch 5, sl st into next ch1 space) 6 times.
5. Sl st into ch3 space, ch3 2dc into same space, *(4dc, ch2, 4dc) into 5ch space, 3dc into ch3 space. Repeat from * until you reach the beginning again, sl st to join.
Of course if you're joining as you go like I am then your round 5 will need to include the slip stitches in between the dc clusters of other hexagons.

This is the half hexie pattern, afraid no round by round pictures but here's the end result!

Pattern:
Magic ring,
1. Ch3, 5dc into ring. DO NOT JOIN. Pull small yarn to make it tight. Turn.
2. Ch2, dc into same st, bobble st in next 5 stitches. Turn.
3. Ch4, *3dc, ch1 in next ch1 space. repeat from * 4 more times, dc into end st. Turn.
4. Ch2, sl st into next space, ch3, sl st into next space, ch5, sl st into next space, ch3, sl st into next space, ch5, sl st into next space, ch 3, sl st into next space, ch 2, sl st into end st. Turn.
5. Ch 3, 3dc in ch2 space, 3dc in ch3 space, (4dc, ch2, 4dc) in ch 5 space, 3dc in ch3 space, (4dc, ch2, 4dc) in ch 5 space, 3dc in ch3 space, 4dc in ch 2 space.
If you're joining as you go then round 5 goes like this:
5. Ch 3, join with sl st in corner of hexie, 3dc in ch2 space, join with sl st in next space, 3dc in ch3 space, join with sl st in next space, (4dc, join in corners of hexie, 4dc) in ch 5 space, join with sl st in next space, 3dc in ch3 space, join with sl st in next space, (4dc, join in corners of hexie, 4dc) in ch 5 space, join with sl st in next space, 3dc in ch3 space, join with sl st in next space, dc in ch 2 space, join with sl st in corner of hexie, dc in ch 2 space.
Now for the little hexie bit!
This bit is more fiddly and you kind of have to wing it a bit to make it fit! Join this is you make it.
1, Ch 11, sl st into 2nd st from hook, sl st in next st, sc into next 6 st's, sl st into next 2 st's. Turn.
2. Ch 3, skip 2 st's, sl st into next st, ch 5, skip next 4 st's, sl st into next st, ch 3, skip 2 st's, sl st into last st. Turn
3. Ch 3, join to top of hexie, dc in same st, sl st into next hexie space, 3dc into ch3 space, sl st to next hexie space, 4dc into ch 5 space, sl st into corners of hexies, 4dc into ch5 space, sl st into next hexie space, 3dc into ch3 space, 2dc into end of the ch 3 space, join to hexie.
I hope this helps all you hexie ladies and gentlemen!

Thanks for stopping by! XX

It's brilliant! Thank you for your message! It's lovely you have been able to work out the half hexies and side tips and put them into a pattern. I always fly by the seat of my pants and am too impatient to stop to write down what I do! The Circus Patchwork Blanket has ended up being one of my favourites. It was really hotpotch but I love how it has turned out and it snuggles my youngest and it really suits him and his bedroom. It was a fun blanket to do and not so fiddly as the blocks were all one colour which I loved! I'm sure you will love your blanket for many a year too!
ReplyDeleteTake care

Hi Jeany,
ReplyDeleteThankyou so much for the instructions on straightening the zig-zag edges!!! I've been hunting for ages and came across Coco Rose's blanket but no instructions and was about to email her when I read all the comments and there was the answer!!
I've actually been following Sue Pinner's instructions from her book "Granny Squares" for my hexagon blanket but have made it bigger and wanted straight edges. It's nearing the end (finally!) and your instructions are VERY much appreciated!
Thankyou
