Cornwall

Surfing, crabbing, rock pooling, reading, relaxing, laughing.

That just about sums up my week in Cornwall!

We stayed in a little cottage in Wadebridge - I highly recommend it as it was so clean and perfect inside, although both bedrooms have a double bed in so our two had to top and tail!! They didn't mind but they won't want to do that for much longer! It was gorgeous and I really miss the dishwasher! The owner, Kerry, left us a huge hamper of goodies and all around the cottage are cute decorations and words to make it very homely.

The lounge was so big and cosy that we actually didn't go out at all in the evenings, we opted for BBQ, board games and playing cards instead. Isobel turns hyper in the evenings anyway so that was our entertainment sorted!

We started off the week in Padstow with fish and chips on the harbour when we arrived! We went back to Padstow twice to go crabbing and buy some souvenirs - it's a lovely place for shopping - loads of lovely gift, home and clothes shops!

The crabbing there is brilliant - we caught nearly 30 crabs both times we went and some of them were huge! You do need a net to catch the crabs before they fall off the bait as the harbour walls are high!

Smelly fish head for lunch anyone?!

After some yummy fish and chips - not Rick Stein's but from Chip Ahoy, and were delicious!

Whilst in Padstow we visited the National Lobster Hatchery:

We adopted two lobster's which the girls named Rocko and Lucy, they will be released back into the sea around Christmas time!

We spent most days sitting on the beach all day, we had lovely weather! The girls learnt to bodyboard surf at Polzeath and at Constantine Bay they spent the entire time exploring the rock pools nearby so Daniel and I read a whole book each! Every now and then, Saffron and Isobel would run back to us, grinning and clutching a bucket full of something!

Great book!
The book I read was Needles and Pearls by Gil McNeil - the blurb made me think it could be an empty story about one woman's life so wasn't sure I would like it but actually I was hooked from the start. I think I admired the heroine of the story and also slightly envious that she was running a wool shop by the sea! Reading this made me feel like anything is possible if you put your mind to it!

I didn't realise there is a book before this one so I am going to read them all the wrong way round!

One day we decided to cycle along the camel trail and hired some bikes in Wadebridge. Even if you have a toddler or a baby you can do this as they have all kinds of bikes and trailers to hire!

Seeing as we had been to Padstow twice already we decided to bike to Bodmin. The bike ride was fun but Bodmin was awful! We did go round Bodmin jail which was really interesting, so not a complete waste of a journey!

We love biking as a family and that day we biked 12 whole miles - something me and the girls had never done before. I was worried about being stiff the next day or upsetting the arthritis but I was perfectly fine! I was actually far more energetic that evening that any other evening in my life - weird but wonderful!

So that ends our week in Cornwall. I would love to have stayed there two weeks but that's for another year! I will definitely be going back and actually felt the holiday blues when I got back!

  1. Looks like you had a great time! I LOVED Needles and Pearls, plan to read it again soon as I re-read Divas Dont Knit in France. There is also a third one called Knit One Pearl One. If you like them, I also highly recommend the Friday Night Knitting CLub Trilogy

    1. Yes, I think I'll read all three in a row.

Thank you, I will try that book too - someone else has recommended that to me too so it sounds like a good one!

      Thank you X

  2. Constantine Bay is my most favourite beach in Cornwall, and padstow is so beautiful, looked looking at your photos, your holiday sounds similar to ours
