I had a brainwave the other day (shocking I know), instead of buying pretty and quite expensive fabric to make clothes with, I thought I would buy big dresses from Ebay that were made with lovely fabric. As I am a size 12, I realised that buying 18+ sized dresses would give me enough fabric to play around with making skirts and tops etc.
I saw this idea on Pinterest to kick start me off - something easy that didn't require a pattern. This lovely skirt is for sale on Etsy.

So, I bought this dress from Ebay for £6 inc postage which arrived today...
I have never liked that ruffly style of hem so I chopped it off and rejoined it, not ideal but you'd have to inspect it closely to notice as I pattern matched it together.
I chopped up a pair of black jeggings that did fit me nicely round the waist but they rode up my legs all the time!?
I am quite pleased with it, perhaps it's not quite hanging as nicely as the Etsy one but it's good enough for me to wear out one day!
Here it is!
| You can see the join here so it's not quite perfect but I like it! |
And there's enough ruffly hem for me to make one of the girls a skirt too!! Bargain.
I love it. It's much nicer as a skirt than a dress x
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie, I thought so too!
DeleteI really like that. I may just have to do that to one of my cheesecloth skirts. If I get around to it I will post a pic on my blog. x

Genius idea! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Not my idea though...can't take credit for that!
DeleteLove that idea! I have a dress I keep because I loke the fabric even though it the top half doesn't fit. Might have to give this a go.
ReplyDeleteWell it sounds perfect for that! Good luck! Thank you x
