I sew stuff, I crochet stuff, I make other stuff, I talk about stuff, and well...you know...stuff!

Upcycled!

I had a brainwave the other day (shocking I know), instead of buying pretty and quite expensive fabric to make clothes with, I thought I would buy big dresses from Ebay that were made with lovely fabric. As I am a size 12, I realised that buying 18+ sized dresses would give me enough fabric to play around with making skirts and tops etc.

I saw this idea on Pinterest to kick start me off - something easy that didn't require a pattern. This lovely skirt is for sale on Etsy.

Found on Etsy

So, I bought this dress from Ebay for £6 inc postage which arrived today...

I have never liked that ruffly style of hem so I chopped it off and rejoined it, not ideal but you'd have to inspect it closely to notice as I pattern matched it together.

I chopped up a pair of black jeggings that did fit me nicely round the waist but they rode up my legs all the time!?

I am quite pleased with it, perhaps it's not quite hanging as nicely as the Etsy one but it's good enough for me to wear out one day!

Here it is!

You can see the join here so it's not quite perfect but I like it!

And there's enough ruffly hem for me to make one of the girls a skirt too!! Bargain.

  1. I love it. It's much nicer as a skirt than a dress x

  2. I really like that. I may just have to do that to one of my cheesecloth skirts. If I get around to it I will post a pic on my blog. x

  4. Love that idea! I have a dress I keep because I loke the fabric even though it the top half doesn't fit. Might have to give this a go.
