Hoopy hoops!

I have made a couple of hoops recently, one for the lovely Louise of Craftyguider (who has just started blogging by the way) and one for my lovely student midwife friend Valerie. Louise wanted a duck theme which to be honest I was daunted at as ducks are fairly hard to draw, let alone create fabricly! I think I did an alright job anyway! Valerie wanted it to be ladybirds and I managed to concoct something small for her!

I never know how I am going to do a hoopla picture, I start with one or two bits, in the duck one it was the tree and the pond, and then the rest just follows. I have no plan or drafted version, it occurs naturally! Which is how I seem to work best! The ducks were hidden ones because I was nervous about sewing them but then I grew confident enough to make a flying one!

So here are my hooplas! Excuse the appalling photos, I tend to take photos when the light is incredibly poor!

Today I was driving to Bury St Edmunds with my lovely girlies and a friend, they have gymnastics and theatre club so Thursdays are taxi days! The sky today was simply gorgeous! Not only were the clouds peculiar and irregular but they were also pink! Coming out the bottom of one fluffty cloud was the bottom part of a rainbow! To the left of the pinkness and the rainbow, was half the moon poking out of the clouds. Then, as Isobel was trying to take photos, a massive flock of birds flew across the sky! It was so surreal and beautiful. These pictures really do not capture how colourful and gorgeous the sky was. The rainbow really was big and colourful but here it looks naff and puny! Lately things like this have been happening to me. I was driving to Bury, again, a few days ago and the sun was gorgeously streaming through the window. As I was driving past the golden, autumnal trees, the wind picked up and big swirly gusts of leaves were flying around all above me and it looked so beautiful. A couple of days after that, me and my friend had to stop in the car because a deer skipped across the road, and then another, and another, until at least 8 deer had crossed the road. It was truly magical! Proper feel good factor stuff ya know!!?

That is meant to be the rainbow! See the hundreds of birds flying over?

Tiny moon! Pink sky!

  1. You did a fantastic job! My friend will love her hoopla and if she doesn't, I'm sacking her as a mate and stealing it back!

  3. The hooplas are gorgeous Jeany - I'm so in love with them!!
Sunset pics are fab as well! My Dad & I had a similar rainbow experience recently, driving back from my dad's friends funeral - just as we got to the village they grew up in, a rainbow appeared, stayed in sight as we drove through the village, then vanished again! Was beautiful and eery all at the same time!
I love reading your blog, it's such an inspiration to a newbie like me! Thanks again for all the support recently, you're a star
